5 Benefits of Reading
5 Benefits of Reading
Let us escape into the realm of fiction or non-fiction on Read a Book Day (6 September) and discover something new. A perfect day to encourage others to read a book and highlight the various advantages of reading, which are outlined here.
1. Reduces stress and helps you relax
Allowing yourself to get lost in a good book is the best way to escape the problems and tensions of everyday life. A 2009 study at the University of Sussex discovered that reading can reduce stress by up to 68%! Hence, when you are stressed, grab a book and immerse yourself in the storylines, allowing your mind and body to relax.
2. Improves your concentration and memory
Not only should we engage in physical exercise to stay healthy, but we need also to engage in mental exercise that tests our memory and focus. Reading is the best mental exercise for us since it requires us to recall various characters, places, plots, twists, and connections. When your entire attention is focused on the story, this will improve your memory and concentration.
3. Vocabulary expansion and strengthens your writing abilities
Reading a well-written book can expose you to more words, which will help you communicate more effectively. You can be nervous, fatigued, agitated, frustrated, or weary instead of simply expressing you're sad or not in the mood. So, while all of those words are sad, each requires a different remedy. Expanding your vocabulary, improving your communication abilities, and being exposed to various writing styles will all help you enhance your writing skills.
4. Enhances your knowledge
Reading recipes, magazines, newspapers, articles, or novels will load your head with information. We never know when it will come in helpful, but having all of this knowledge on hand could be useful in the future.
